Program Description

Event Details

Curious about sourdough but feeling overwhelmed by all the jargon, steps, and starter talk? Join Sam Sykula for a warm, welcoming, and deliciously interactive class where you'll not only learn the foundations of sourdough baking—but taste them, too.

We'll kick things off with a tasting to wake up your taste buds—usually my crowd-favorite sourdough cinnamon rolls (trust me, they’ve converted many skeptics!). Then, we’ll dive into the basics: essential tools, terminology, and techniques that demystify the process and set you up for success.

This is not your average lecture-style class—there’s no need to furiously scribble notes. Every student receives a full sourdough cookbook, packed with everything we cover and tons of recipes for both active and discard sourdough. That means you can relax, engage, ask questions, and really absorb the material in real time. They will also receive their very own sourdough starter!

The heart of the class is a live demonstration where I show you how to feed your starter and make a loaf of sourdough bread. You’ll see exactly how it’s done, while we discuss each step, troubleshoot common issues, and piece the process together. I’ll also bring a finished loaf for everyone to sample, because tasting truly helps bring the concepts home.

The class runs about 2 hours and is designed to leave you feeling inspired, informed, and very well-fed.

Come curious, leave confident—and with a whole new appreciation for the beautiful rhythm of sourdough.

This workshop is open to TEENS only! Those entering grades 7-12. Any adult who registers will have their registration cancelled. This program is taking place after the library is closed - no items will be checked out as the library will be closed. Parents are not required to stay, but you must be back BEFORE 7:30pm to pick up your teen.
